"To be, or not to be".. Who said that? William Shakespeare. Wait.. is this not a blog about cakes? YES! But our last adventure was at Shakespeare home town. Stratford-upon-avon is a town, 2h from London by train. It's a small place, full of history, where you can see Shakespeare's house, walk on the small lanes and totally feel back on the past.
We went there just for a day and was enough to see most of the town. We left London in the morning from Marylebone station and after 2h we were there. The station is very close to the town center and we walked all over the place, no bus needed. We took a ride in one of many boats on the canal, visited a butterfly farm and, of course, enjoyed a delicious meal!
We stopped at Hobsons Patisserie for just a coffee but we got surprised for many savories options.
The place looks small from outside but they have plenty tables on two floors shop. As you can see from the window, the place is amazing, full of history, very traditional architecture and they have MANY options of cakes... plenty indeed!
In this picture you can have a idea of the counter... there is more! The prices are really good but the staff on the counter were not very friendly maybe because they had a huge queue to serve, acceptable.
So we decided have lunch and coffee there, at the same time.
We choose one raspberry cake with streusel on top, one Saint Honorè cake, one traditional beef pie and one pie with blue cheese.
The pies were AMAZING.. the best ones I've ever tried! They came with mash potatos, mash peas and gravy.. fabulous! The streusel cake was also very good. The raspberry cream wasn't sweet which I appreciate on cakes.. good balance. The Saint Honorè cake was a little bit over sweet, made of chocolate mousse and choux buns inside and on top of the cake, filled with wipped cream. Nice!
Overall, the town is really nice, worth the travel, the Hobsons Patisserie was absolutely good! We recommend the town and the shop!!
